May Flowers 🌸
by art editor Lilliana Cameron
If your winter has been long, or your April not as sunny as you hoped, do not fret! May is here, and with it brings an abundance of life. Flowers are blooming, eggs are hatching, insects are pollinating. Trillions of cicadas are emerging after being underground for 13 to 17 years in an event that hasn’t occurred since 1803.
If you’ve been looking for motivation to start something new or get back into your craft full force, take some inspiration from these cicadas. After years living underground, they are emerging out into the world bigger & louder than ever.
It’s easy to feel like it’s too late to start or become an “expert” at your craft. Thoughts like, “I should have picked up the guitar sooner,” “I should have dedicated more time to my poetry last year,” or “I shouldn’t have taken that break from painting” could run through your mind. But, don’t look at your past as time wasted—it was just your time underground before emerging with full force into your art. Use this rare resurgence of life as inspiration to start creating. Whether you decide to dabble in a new art form or return to one you’ve already connected with, it’s never too late to create. The world wants to hear your voice. Artists & creators are also taking this time of renewal to shine a light on their work and build community through art events all over the world... and, here at Carolina Muse, we're gearing up for our biggest event of the year: Arts Jam!
Arts Jam is Saturday, May 25th, 12pm-4pm at The Artistry Gallery in Greenville, SC.
There will be musicians, poetry readings, and dancers performing as well as visual artists selling their work. We will also be releasing Vol. IV, No. II on this day, so come celebrate with us, enjoy the beautiful array of local artists, and get a copy of the magazine in-person! Secure your $15 ticket here.
